Below you will find useful information about the color we love so much. The color silver has gone through a series of name changes and some years was not even produced. Below you will find the years broken out, the name of silver or close to the color silver for that year, and silver production numbers if information was made available.
1987

Our Color Name of the Year: Light Gray

The Fox body benefits from the most dramatic restyling so far. Flush, single-unit halogen headlights, glass quarter windows and modified taillights serve to clean up the LX. The GT is another story. An extremely low air intake, round fog lights, lateral ground effects, 20-spoke turbine-like rims, louvered taillights and a tasteful rear deck wing make a strong statement. And the GT can perform as capably as it provokes. New cylinder heads, revised exhaust and fuel injection computer controls intensify the 5.0L low-end torque for a formidable 300 pounds/feet street ride.

The V6 Mustang is discontinued as the four-cylinder receives fuel injection.

Mustang borrows larger 10.9-inch front discs from the Lincoln Continental.

Our Color Name of the Year: Light Gray

Mustang receives a stronger, 540-amp, battery. Meanwhile, the LX 5.0L continues to thrive with an available 225 horsepower, not to mention nearly 200 pounds less cladding than the GT. For only $1,885, the LX can be equipped with a 5.0L GT motor and suspension. Considering that these components are tucked out of sight, the LX is a veritable "street-sleeper."

Our Color Name of the Year: Light Gray

Adjustable front seats, which had been solely a GT accommodation, are now available on the LX. More significantly, the speed density air intake system is replaced by mass air. Mass air not only reads more accurately, but also is easier to upgrade through the aftermarket.

Our Color Name of the Year: Silver

To help sagging sales, Ford offered a Limited Edition models in 1992 and 1993. Two were offered in 1993: bright yellow and white LX convertibles. Each had white tops and white interiors. Only 1503 were made in yellow, and only 1500 were made in white.

Ford formed a Special Vehicle Team (SVT) in 1991 to create high-performance cars. SVT's first offering was the 1993 Mustang SVT Cobra. Their modifications resulted in 10 more horsepower and better handling. Later in the year they offered a race-ready Cobra R. The R had no rear seat, air conditioner, or sound deadening material to make it lighter. The wheels were black with chrome hubcaps. Only 107 were made.
